Summary

The CNC Laser Operator is responsible for operating computer numerical control (CNC) laser engraving and cutting machines used in the production process in a metal manufacturing plant.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the CNC and other machinery used in the production process and assist other machine operators.

  • Select and set up lenses based on material type and thickness, load programs, set machine parameters and proper fixtures to ensure optimal performance of the equipment.

  • Establish proper stop location, adjust laser beam focal point.

  • Create and edit laser cut files from CAD drawings in various formats; prepare, lay out and array parts from the cut files in the laser software for optimal engraving and cutting speeds and yield.

  • Manage and maintain files to ensure matching revision levels at all times.

  • Monitor fill level of chiller system and process gases, and report reordering levels.

  • Provide a great level of attention to detail and focus on the given task.

  • Perform prescribed preventative maintenance on machines and equipment as required.

  • Perform all dimensional inspections.

  • Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Solid background working with sheet metal.

  • Knowledge of tooling and tool maintenance.

  • Proven measurement and mathematical fraction/decimal conversion skills.

  • Ability to distinguish material types including Galvanized and Stainless Steel.

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, multi-task and prioritize in an effective way.

  • Must be a strong team player.

  • Ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision while meeting all product quality requirements.

  • Ability to read a tape measure and caliper.

  • Ability to read blueprints and requires knowledge of engineered specified tolerances.

  • Ability to Stand and Walk 8 Hours/Day.

  • Lifting up to 50lbs.

Education

  • High school diploma or GED is required.

  • 2+ years of experience operating a CNC laser machine preferred.
