John Boos & Co. Donates The Largest Round Butcher Block In Boos History, To A Charity Organization That Leads Homeless Families To Self-Sufficiency.
Effingham, IL. – John Boos & Co, a leader in gourmet butcher block kitchen furnishings, and stainless steel foodservice equipment manufacturing, crafted a massive, 84” diameter solid black walnut butcher block, weighing in at 1,400 pounds. This remarkable block made its first debut at the National Association of Food Equipment Manufacturers (NAFEM) SHOW where it was on display for thousands of foodservice equipment and supplies buyers to see. The BOOS BLOCK® was made by cutting 2,500 1-1/2” wide by 10” tall strips of solid walnut hardwood which was sourced from the midwest. The walnut strips were then stood “on end” and glued together to form a square, end grain constructed butcher block top, that was rounded off and mounted on a solid black walnut base. The challenges of a custom block as this, were such that it had to be made in two pieces to be properly transported and to fit through the doors of the building. The block took 30 man-hours to custom build; however, it serves a very meaningful purpose. It has found a home at the Metropolitan Ministries Café in Tampa, FL. Metropolitan Ministries provides culinary arts education and hands-on vocational training to men and women transitioning out of homelessness and poverty. Their graduates are employed at their cafes, catering division, and at some of Tampa’s finest restaurants. All proceeds from your meal purchases from “Inside The Box” (a social enterprise of Metropolitan Ministries) go directly to feed the hungry in Tampa Bay. In the last year, 1,169,826 million meals have been served through Metropolitan Ministries’ hunger programs. John Boos & Co. is proud to be a supporter of this wonderful organization.
